Meet the Doctors
Dr. Richey graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1986. He and his wife, Lorna, are originally from Belle Fourche and returned home to start his practice. Spearfish Eye Care Center has been in business for 25 years now, and Dr. Richey truly enjoys the many patients that have become his friends over the years. He and Lorna have raised four girls: Sydni, Jessie, Mary and Michelle, and finally got some boys with their two grandsons! He is an avid fisherman, and can often be seen "cutting a rug" with Lorna wherever there is good country music!
Dr. Haivala attended undergrad at USD in Vermillion and graduated from Southern California College of Optometry in 1991. She is originally from Mitchell and wanted to move back to South Dakota to raise her family. Her husband, Bryan, is from Belle Fourche and they loved the Black Hills so luckily Dr. Richey was looking for a partner! She has been practicing here since 1993. She particularly enjoys pediatrics and contact lenses, and working with the area ophthalmologists to co-manage LASIK and cataract surgery. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the South Dakota Optometric Association. She is involved in the Zonta Club of Spearfish and is currently the Vice President. Kathy enjoys running with her dogs and playing scrabble. She and Bryan have three children, Jake, Sam and Sadie.
